Is it ever okay to evict someone from their home? What are your rights as a tenant? How can we actually have them enforced?
In times of crisis, the best solutions stem from communities coming together. And the housing crisis is worsening. There are far more people in need of affordable, secure, appropriate housing than what is available. Many people are being forced to suffer mould and other structural defects because there is nowhere else to go, and their landlord wont fix it (or will kick them out if they complain. Nobody should have to choose between poor health or homelessness.
Join Brisbane Renters Alliance and special guests in Milton (TBA soon), for discussion and education around your rights as a renter, and how communities can work together to keep people in their homes.
WHEN: Sunday 5th June 5pm - 7.30pm
WHERE: Paddington Play Centre, 10 Moreton Street, Paddington Qld 4064
All are welcome, whether you're renting near Milton or anywhere else.
This is an in-person, indoors event. We encourage people to wear masks and to socially distance where possible for your health and that of others. The venue is wheelchair accessible. AUSLAN interpreters can be arranged on request.
Please RSVP to help us manage catering and capacity limits!
This event is taking place on the unceded lands of the Jagera and Turrbal people. Musgrave Park is a particularly significant place for Aboriginal people from across the continent. We pay respects to elders past and present, and we recognise that conversations about housing must be grounded in the recognition that these phenomena are part of an ongoing process of colonisation and extractive exploitation
